Merry Christmas from TDF!

Hey all, it’s Kern here, and it’s been a bit. First of all, let me just say may everyone here have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We have two songs to celebrate the holiday season.

The first one is to acknowledge that not everyone has been so fortunate as to enjoy a happy 2025, or a perfect holiday season called “Bells Over Burning Cities“. Lyrics are in the video, but honestly, I think it’s a decent holiday banger too in general. Either way, may this song bring you to hope and comfort during the holiday season if difficulties are what come your way. Also, it’s a duet, so that’s always fun!

The second song is from the Fallen Angels In Limelight band, and called “It’s Christmas Tonight”, which is a more feel-good glam rock song Kresh lovingly poured her heart into to ring in the celebratory aspects of the season.

We hope both of these songs will reach you well during this festive time of year and that one (or both!) will end up in your holiday line-up for years to come whenever the season comes around.

So, have a very happy holiday season from the members of TDF, and we’ll see you in the new year for more music and plenty of reaction content and live streams.

This has been Kern from The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at its finest, and level grinds are par for the course. We’ll see you next time!

This is a Raven fan song, obviously and it’s about Yang. It’s been posted for a while now over on YouTube, but I only just got around to posting it…

Final Fantasy VI Fan Song: Call Me Thief (Locke Cole)

Hey all, it’s Kern here dropping you a fan song about Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy 6, or Final Fantasy 3 if you play it on the SNES). Locke is introduced early in Final Fantasy VI as a charismatic rogue with a knack for sneaking, stealing, and looking good while doing it. He’s got fast hands, and faster comebacks. On the surface, he’s your classic RPG rogue (or Final Fantasy Thief).

He’s witty, agile, a little bit flirty, and fiercely independent… or, so it seems…

From the moment he appears, it’s clear there’s something more behind the smirk. Locke isn’t just here for riches or fun. He’s hurting. Everything he does, every fight he throws himself into, every damsel he tries to save, every relic he chases down is driven by something deeper: guilt, loss, and a desperate need to protect what he couldn’t protect before.

So enter in this fan song, “Call Me Thief” a tribute to Locke Cole, and who he actually is as a person. I wanted the song to reflect his passing as well as his caution. His values, and his contradictions. What he holds privately, and what he wears openly on his sleeve.

Locke Cole is probably one of the most compelling characters in Final Fantasy VI. Honestly, although he is not my all-time favorite, he stands solidly in the top 3 characters I most resonate with when playing through the game. If you liked the song, please consider subscribing to us both here on the blog or over on YouTube for more gaming fan songs like this.

Remember, we play games over on Twitch as well, so come by and say hello. You can catch us streaming for a few hours a few times a week.

STARBOUND – A Synthwave Journey Amid the Stars

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with a synthwave album that we’ve slowly been trickling out onto YouTube over the past few weeks. This is a short, experimental album, but if you like stories like this one with a synthwave and science fiction bent then make sure to like the videos, leave comments, and maybe follow us over on our channel. The more engagement from you readers on our channel, the better for us. The more we know what kind of music you like to listen to, the more chances we have to make that style of music.

The Starbound album comes to you from the mastermind of Kresh, and there’s a loose narrative to be found across the album about an AI learning about their own humanity and person-hood. It’s also much shorter than our glam rock/glam metal City of Shadows universe, which is now in its second album.

As for me, when it comes to Starbound, my personal favorites from this album are probably Nebula Drift and Blackout Horizon. For me, those two just hit perfectly. Nebula Drift just feels like you’re moving through outer space in the best way possible, and Blackout Horizon is about getting sucked into a black hole, what isn’t to like, really?

Tracks go in the order found below, or you can just check out the full playlist here.

The final song, Earthbound caps off this short adventure through the stars as our hero heads home, and what a journey it’s been. With today finally bringing the end to the album, you can now find the mp.3s up on our Patreon for those who want them.

Hopefully you enjoyed the ride. This has been Kern of The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at it’s finest, and level grinds are par for the course! Check out some of our other playlists and musical collections below.

For everyone else, let’s go song by song!

First though, let’s talk about Thunderous Power Kicks (T.P.K)! This is a fictional band set in the world of DnD, and led by their fearless band leader and bard Myev Rockblade. She’s glam rock diva, so she loves being the centre of attention but when it comes down to it shes loyal to her band/friends. This band is part of the greater Demented Ferrets band universes, along with FAIL: Fallen Angels in Limelight for our City of Shadows universe.

With that said, here’s the music, hope you like it! Jam on, DnD fans, jam on… and maybe start a tavern brawl or two.

The Deep Remembers Him (Still Wakes the Deep: Siren’s Rest Fan Song)

Hey all, it’s Kern here! Still Wakes the Deep is a horror game set on an oil rig. A quick review of the game can be found here. However, earlier this year a short DLC was released Still Wakes the Deep: Siren’s Rest, and in my opinion it really is a solid DLC all around.

In Still Wakes the Deep: Siren’s Rest, you play a member of a specialist dive team. The group goes to the North Sea to uncover the truth about what happened on the rig, and as you can guess you’re underwater for the majority of the game. I don’t want to give away too much, it’s a short DLC to play through, but I do believe it’s worth the time for anyone who enjoys undersea horror with a dash of eldritch horror meets “The Thing”, which is how I describe Still Wakes the Deep to anyone who wants to play it without spoilers.

Kresh and I thoroughly enjoyed the DLC to the point we made a fan song about it. This is that song, I hope you enjoy it, and if you’re looking for a horror game to play, maybe give Still Wakes the Deep a try. Just be ready for a lot of water related havoc, and that goes double for the DLC.

Happy gaming everyone, and now, for the fan song:

If you like the song, and want to pick up the MP.3 for yourself, you can get it over on our Patreon if you’re a paying member: patreon.com/TheDementedFerrets. RWBY Fan Song: Loneliness Like Mine

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here! I’m coming at you with a RWBY fan song for the Freezer burn pair (Weiss and Yang). These two are amazing, even if they aren’t a canon ship. I hope you enjoy it!

RWBY Fan Song: Autograph

This one is called Autograph, and the reason I made it was because I was inspired by Volume 1 of the series where Ruby comes into contact with Glynda for the first time.

Song: Heatwave Messiah

Hey all, it’s Kern here, bringing you another song. It’s been a hot, hot summer, so Kresh made this to beat the heat. Hope you all enjoy it.

If you like the song, you can pick up the mp.3 over on our Patreon page if you’re a paying member, but we keep it affordable… and of course, you can listen to the song over on YouTube whenever you like, or here as well. Happy listening! patreon.com/TheDementedFerrets

Announcement: City of Shadows 2 Trailer

Hey all! It’s Kern here to drop something super exciting. Kresh has been absolutely busting her butt on City of Shadows 2, a continuation of the first Album’s story: found here:

City of Shadows Album

Album: City of Shadows

This is the latest project from Kresh known as City of Shadows. This 19 song story will slowly unfold over time, and if you want to follow it more closely you should subscribe to our YouTube channel where two songs will be…

Anyway, needless to say we’re super excited to say this teaser song and set-up for the next part of the journey is ready for you all to hear. The album will begin to be released on YouTube later on this year. Give it a listen, and join the hype!

Lyrics are in the video, but for those of you wishing to read them more thoroughly, here they are below:

[Verse 1] City stands though scars run deep, In the hush the mourners weep. Towers blaze in golden light, Yet the dusk encroaches night.

[Pre-Chorus] Over cobblestones they cry, Freedom flickers in the sky.

[Chorus] Silent hearts in shadows roam, Holding tight to fractured home. Ancient wounds are slow to fade, Dreams rebuild where blood was laid. Over stone a whisper calls, Waiting deep in ruined halls.

[Verse 2] Winds arise beyond the flame, Isolated lands reclaim. Lines are drawn in shifting dust, Legends forged from broken trust. Riders cross the dry ravine, Eyes like steel their blades unseen. Treason walks where banners burn, Under stars the powers turn. Rumors rise and fates entwine, Nation trembles at the sign.

[Verse 3] Through the silence something stays, Hope in half-remembered ways, Even now her flame survives. Wind may scatter what was whole, In her song we find our soul, Never gone she walks the skies. Don’t let time erase her name, She’s the spark the unseen flame.

[Pre-Chorus 3] Over steppes and city spires, Fate still sings through broken choirs.

[Chorus 3 /Outro] Vows are whispered hearts awaken, Oaths renewed the ground is shaken. Rising now from dust and stone, Yl’Dashan is not alone. Night returns but she is near, Beckoning across the fear. Even if the stars grow cold, Carry her in tales retold. Know her name and do not stray, On her wings we’ll find our way. Never silent. Never still…

RWBY Fan Song: Battle at the Bar

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with another RWBY fan song, this time about the RWBY Yellow Trailer. This fan song was inspired by Yang’s combat style, character motivations, and what little we knew of the events at the time…. a little retrospection, a whole lot of badassery, and here we have it: Battle at the Bar. As always, these lyrics are human written, but AI was used to compose the song.

[Intro] YEEAAAAHHHHHHHH!

[Verse 1] She’s tearing down the streets, the engine’s a roar, A blazing beauty, she’s ready for war! Pulls up to the curb, slams the brakes tight, Throws off her helmet, sets the world alight! With hair like fire, she’s ready to show, The storm’s just started, here she goes! Struts through the door like she owns the place, A smirk on her lips, fire in her face!

[Pre-Chorus] She steps to the bar, cocky grin on her face! Orders a drink with an umbrella in place!

Chorus] She’s the Blaze of the Dragon, lighting up the night, Fists of fury, she’s ready for the fight! With Ember Celica strapped to her arms, She’ll blast you away with her fiery charms! She’s the Blaze of the Dragon, hear her call, One punch is all it takes to make ’em fall! When the flames ignite, you better stand clear, Yang’s on fire, and she’s bringing the fear!

[Verse 2] Looking for answers, she won’t back down, Junior’s got the info, but he’s standin’ his ground! She won’t take no for an answer tonight, A fight for the truth, she’s ready to ignite! With Ember Celica, she’s breaking the floor, One punch, one blast, and they’ll beg for more! The battle’s on, you better beware, Yang’s on the hunt, and she’s bringing the flare!

[Pre-Chorus] Watch her bring the heat, the battle’s begun, The dragon’s unleashed, there’s nowhere to run!

[Chorus] She’s the Blaze of the Dragon, lighting up the night, Fists of fury, she’s ready for the fight!

[Bridge] (Guitar solo, wild and fast, with a slow breakdown) She’s got the power, she’s got the might, Like a comet, she’ll burn through the night! With every strike, the world will know, Yang’s the one who steals the show! (Guitar wailing as it fades out into the next section)

[Chorus – Final] She’s the Blaze of the Dragon, lighting up the night, Fists of fury, she’s ready for the fight!

[Outro] YEAHHHHH! She’s the Blaze of the Dragon, ohhhh! With a punch that lands, Junior’s flying through, Smashing through the window, out cold, he flew! Landing on the streets, no one hears him scream, Yang’s got the fight, but not the answers she dreams. She walks away, her search far from done, Looking for her mother, the hunt’s still on!

RWBY Fan Song: Jinn’s Observations (Remnants of Light)

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with another RWBY Fan song…

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but as I continue to work on the RWBY fan song playlist, I’ve also begun (kind of) laying them out in what would logically be a chronological timeline order on the YouTube playlist. However, I really, really REAAAALLLLYYY (you see how bad I wanted this?) wanted to have some kind of way to tie these fan songs together into a way that highlights the much wider narrative and universe… and then, it came to me.

We’ve got that in Jinn, (who we now did the explanation in Volume 1, Chapter 1). So, this fan song is all about world building. I wanted to focus not on a set of characters, but rather, the world of Remnant at large. I really hope you enjoy it… and as always, don’t forget to follow us on YouTube and Twitch for fun content.

Lyrics:

[Spoken] Legends, stories, scattered in time, Told by history, destruction in rhyme. Heroes and villains in fading lore, They forgot what they were fighting for.

[Verse 1] From dust they rose, with hearts so bold, In lands where the shadows took hold. Born into a world without reprieve, But strong enough to still believe.

[Pre-Chorus] Darkness came with teeth and claws, No gods to pity, no cause to pause. Yet in the black, they sparked a light, And dared to dream, and dared to fight.

[Chorus] Remnants of light, they carry on, Through shattered peace and breaking dawn. With dust in hand, they forge their way, Though time forgets, they speak their name. When shadows rise to drown the soul, Even the smallest spark makes them whole. Remnants of light, don’t fade away, They are the hope that finds its way.

[Verse] Creatures of Grimm, with no remorse, Built from chaos, a soulless force. But passion burned and wisdom grew, And life returned where darkness flew. Civilizations rise and fall, Still they carve meaning through it all. A fleeting breath, a fragile gleam, Still they reach beyond the dream.

[Pre-Chorus] Prepare their guards, raise every wall, Yet strength alone won’t save them all. The brightest lights will one day dim, But in their wake, a song begins.

[Bridge] There is no victory in strength alone… But perhaps, it lies in simpler things… In honest hearts, where dreams are sown. The truth in them… the will to grow.

[Final Chorus] Remnants of light, they rise again, From dust to stars, from now to then. They are not just what’s left behind, But dreams reborn, in soul and mind. When darkness falls and all seems lost, Remember what they’re fighting for. Remnants of light, these stories stay, And guide the world… to a brighter day.

[Spoken] These are the souls of Remnant… Let their songs begin….

Well, that’s about all for now. I hope you liked it! Personally, I had fun working on the lyrics for it. This has been Kern of The Demented Ferrets! Final Fantasy (NES) Review (1987)

I’m coming at you with a game review of Final Fantasy. Yep! We need to go back to where it all started. These days the game is kind of messy and doesn’t hold up the way slightly later titles do, but let’s not judge it too harshly… it did after all save Square Soft’s butt…
