Fandom: Emma Blackery

Hey everyone it’s Kern here. It’s time for another fandom related post. Obviously, these posts are all about the joy of fandom and cover topics that I’m a fan of. I decided upon another musical artist, it’s been a long time since I’ve written about one.

To be honest with you though, Emma Blackery’s musical talent is something I really should have brought up before. I absolutely love her music.

As a disclaimer, nobody solicited my opinion. Nobody offered me any sort of perk for writing about this artist. I have not met this artists personally. I have not seen her live, in concert.

I simply enjoy Emma’s music as found on YouTube and Spotify. That was my only qualifier that I found necessary in order to make the recommendation of Emma’s musical style.

If you would like to hear her content, I would advise that you follow the links to her YouTube channel or the songs I suggest below. She does plenty of other content over there too.

Artist: Emma Blackery – Emma’s Channel

If you know this artist at all, you may be aware that she’s done collaborative work in the past with Dave, from Boyinaband. That’s how I discovered her channel, in the first place. That was a long time ago though.

Emma has a range of vocal skill. Now, I’m no music critic so I won’t attempt to be one. I love it, that’s enough for me. There’s something about her style that’s so simple, yet, lyrically addictive. Her music will get stuck in your head if you listen to it enough.

I’m writing this blog post today because I’m eagerly awaiting Emma’s new single that she made a tweet about. I have to admit, I’m pretty hyped. Since that song isn’t out yet though, let’s discuss music you can already listen to.

I’d say look no further than “Agenda”. Why do I like it? This is snappy, upbeat, and very self-empowering. It’s the sort of song that I enjoy with the volume levels high as I do chores around the house or just in general. I relate to this song a lot. Hugely entertaining, and an all around good time, you can’t go wrong here.

Frankly, when I listen to an artist like Emma, I don’t resonate well with many of her deeper, more thoughtful pieces. Mind you, that’s just me. That isn’t a slight to her as a singer/songwriter. In fact, you may find that you like some of those tracks better.

I don’t dislike them, I just don’t relate as well personally to them. I just don’t have the same sort of life experiences that help me relate to it in the same way. I think that’s the key takeaway there.

If you do like music that tells a deeper story, I’d have to suggest “Don’t Come Home”. It’s a solid song, the vocals are brilliant, and the musical composition is nothing to sneeze at. I wholeheartedly recommend it because it’s just really good… but it is a bit sadder and introspective.

In the end Emma’s happier pieces, or those with an up-beat tone are the ones that draw me in the most. That being said, you should check out her channel and listen to her music for yourself.

One last song that I feel the absolute urge to add to this list, is Icarus. This song still brings me to tears to this day. Now the reason why it hits home for me is a personal journey. In my blog post “The First Brick” I talk about my cousin passing away and my life’s ambitions… what we always said we’d do… this song reminds me so heavily of those ambitions and my continued steps forward to reach them.

So, if you listen to nothing else… listen to that one… Icarus. If you like her musical style, support her, follow her on her platforms and jam out to that new single song “Cry to Your Mother” when it comes out.

Fandom: Krysta Youngs

Hey everyone, Kernook here. I’m back again, with another artist recommendation.

As for the usual disclaimer, nobody solicited my opinion. Nobody offered me any sort of perk for writing about this musical artist. I have not met this artists personally. I have not seen her live, in concert. I just like her music, and the covers she does of popular songs. That was the only qualifier I deemed necessary for writing this post.

That said, if you’re interested in listening to her musical talents, you should check her YouTube channel down below.

Artist: Krysta Youngs – Krysta’s Channel

Have you ever heard a female singer with a smokey voice, and instantly, your ears perk up? That is what happens when I listen to this artist. My ears perk, I zone in, and I just listen. Her music is good. I can’t say why exactly. I can’t even put my finger on it.

It’s just that good.

That indescribable draw is notable, and that’s why I wanted to suggest her music. The thing is, I’d like to say that I’m a decisive person. That things need to be able to tick certain boxes for me. For whatever reason, her music doesn’t need to. It’s not something I can shove into a mold. Strangely, I don’t really want to try, either.

I just want to enjoy her music for what it is. Her vocal quality is a rarity. I wouldn’t say her lyrics are too catchy, or too edgy. They’re not ear-worms and they don’t linger around long after the song is over. Instead, they’re impact in the moment.

Her lyrics have a subtext that really draws me in. That’s why, I think, I keep going back to her music. When I think of what I would like to suggest, it would have to be “My Funeral” It’s smokey, soft, slightly sensual, and something I always come back to.

Another great song with the same qualities happens to be “Silence and the Clock“. It’s a song I often zone out to as I let the sound sweep me away. The song was actually assisted by Robin Ghosh who ghost recorded all of the guitars used in the song.

Krysta Youngs is just a prolific singer and songwriter, there’s no two ways about it.

All in all, that’s the only reason I need to keep listening. I think there’s something to be said for music that doesn’t just speak to the listener. Songs that are self-serving speak about the artist. It reflects their deepest thoughts and desires, and there will always be value in that.

Like I said, give her music a try, and you might find out you like it.

Fandom: Musical Artist – Boyinaband

Hey’s everyone, it’s Kernook here.

I’m keeping it simple today as I sit here listening to music. I enjoy a lot of creators, and their music. I’d like to highlight that so. So here’s a blog post about one creator I enjoy listening to often.

As a standard disclaimer; I’m not being paid by Boyinaband for this post. Nobody solicited my opinion. I have not met this artist personally. I have not seen Boyinaband live in concert.

This is merely a fan related post. I highly encourage you check out his channel. In general you can find his music on YouTube and Spotify. I often frequent his channel to listen to his lyrical poetry. However, if that isn’t to your tastes he also produces other content too.

Dave From “BoyInABand”.

I tend to find his music to be pure artistry. That was the only qualifier that I found necessary to recommend his channel. If you would like to see his content for yourself, you should follow the link to his channel below.

Boyinaband’s YouTube Channel

His actual name is Dave. As a creator he loves music as a medium, and it shows. Dave often collaborates with other YouTube creators. Unlike his YouTube name implies, however, he is not currently in a band.

Not anymore, anyway.

Some of his collaborations include video game inspired raps from popular games at the time. Along with other YouTube creators, those catchy beats are notable all on their own. However, I want to highlight one of his songs that isn’t inspired by the gaming medium.

If I were to suggest a song from him, it would be “I’m not dead”. The weighted words in the song resonate with me. It speaks a great deal about the daily struggles a person might face, and the logic we use to contradict ourselves constantly.

It’s a song that underlines the reality that people are not infallible. That even if we hate aspects of our personality, we can choose to change ourselves. The message shows that even if that’s a difficult thing to do, it’s not impossible.

His lyrical rhymes dance a fine balancing act of negativity and hope.

This song is a critical look at the creator’s own human condition, imperfect as it is. At the end of the day, I relate well with music like his. If you’re interested, you should check out his channel.

Written Content Going Forward

Hey everyone, here’s a cat photo. That’s Sabin, Kernook’s cat. Got your kitty fix? Good!

It’s time to discuss content you’re going to see on this blog.

I have a lot of information to go over so let’s just jump right into it, shall we?

The Future of the Blog

In truth, in order of priority our Twitch and YouTube channels will be taking center stage. That isn’t to say you won’t find a wealth of content here, because I assure you, you certainly will. There will be blog posts 3 days a week, every week so long as it is feasible to do so.

The blog will update every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with written content.

Now, some of you may know that we had a free blog with the “.wordpress.com” before this blog came into fruition. That blog was messy and ill-planned, but we needed something. Now, before that blog was repurposed for the sake of ” The Demented Ferrets“, it belonged to me. It was my personal blog for anime and gaming content.

Kreshenne and I needed to change that.

That’s why this blog sits here now. My content needed a fundamental overhaul. This is just an overall better layout, and much more carefully thought out. As you can see, that nasty little mess of a web address has been replaced with a far more fitting one.

Therefore, here we go a nice new clean slate. Content across our platforms will be broken up into several different categories. What you can expect to find in each one will be a little different. You can find out more here.

Regarding Old Content

Old content will be slowly cleaned up and brought over from the other blog. When it is an old post refreshed and fixed up, you’re going to see this disclaimer at the top of the post:

“Note: This was an old post on the original “The Demented Ferrets” site, and prior to that it belonged to my personal blog. It is being placed here because this is now where it belongs.”

This is for the sake of transparency, so that you know what posts were originally written back in 2019 and 2020. If new content has been added, I’ll be sure to also clarify that in the note.

Final Thoughts

I think that’s about all I have to say for now. Hopefully with all of the links provided you’ll find content to your liking. In tomorrow’s post I’m going to detail the types of written content you’re going to see on this blog going forward. I hope to see you there.

Please don’t forget to subscribe to the blog and our other platforms. Have any questions or comments? Be sure to leave them below.

Remember, you can help us by sharing this post with your friends and family too. If you know someone who likes anime and gaming content, be sure to share this with them. Thanks, and with that I’ll leave it off here.

Welcome To Our New Blog

Hello everyone, it’s Kernook here. I’m probably going to be the one writing the majority of the content on the blog. Kreshenne has skills best suited to other places.

That being said I hope you enjoy what you find here. I’m sure there will be a few typos and spelling errors along the way, but hopefully it won’t be too bad.

With that out of the way, let me begin begin today by giving you five quick facts about us and telling you what we do.

Five Quick Facts

  1. Kreshenne lives in the UK and Kernook lives in the US. There is a five hour timezone difference between us.
  2. We’ve known each other for about 17 years. We first met over the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI. We’ve been friends ever since.
  3. We chose the name “The Demented Ferrets” because of our gaming history. In most of the MMORPG’s we’ve played there has always been a guild/linkshell/free-company/or other group with that name or some variation on it.
  4. Kernook has habit of breaking things and getting lost in games. Kresh has a habit of fixing whatever Kernook broke and being the navigator. Together we make plenty of havoc.
  5. We have been talking about building an online community for years. However, late in 2020 we finally took the steps to make it happen.

What We Do

On the Topic of Blogs

Anime, Gaming and Art Blog (Kernook and Ruka): We have this blog based around fandom and our interests. This includes anime reviews, game reviews, analysis content for both mediums and opinion pieces based around fandom. Ruka writes art based opinion pieces.

If you’ve lingered around this particular site for long,, you know what to expect. If you’re new here, you should totally explore around and enjoy the blog.

Speaking of enjoyment, that brings me to my next topic, the second blog I’m (Kern) working on personally.

Serialized Stories/Other Written Media (Kernook): I have been starting to prepare serialized long-running stories on a newly made creative writing blog. These are original fictions, written by me personally. You’ll see a lot of our branding make its over to there, even though at the moment we’re using a free version of WordPress to do it.

There is plenty of other content offered too, such as writing tools and non-fiction opinion pieces. Almost all of the content will be centered around the craft of writing/storytelling in some way.

The proper blog for this fiction content can be found below: on April 14th, 2022… for now, the site is under constriction.

Twitch:

Twitch Streaming (Kreshenne and Kernook): Together, we stream video game content on Twitch three days a week.

One of us usually plays the game while the other one is on co-commentary.

We’re also affiliates, meaning that you can subscribe to our twitch and support us there too, if you’d like to do that instead.

Tuesday:
9:00 PM – 12:00 AM (GMT)
4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (EST)
Thursday:

YouTube (Kernook, Kreshenne, Ruka):

Our notable YouTube content includes gaming footage (archived streaming content/no microphone “long-plays”), reviews of anime and gaming content (in conjunction with the blog).

Much of the YouTube content crosses over with the blog, so it is an integral part of our production here. I’d like to say we could have more YouTube content out on a quicker basis, but and we are working on it, but we’re not quite there yet.

Why We Do It

We like to play games, we like to make videos, but most of all, we like to have fun. As a dynamic duo, Kreshenne and Kernook strive to have a good time and create content that others enjoy. Ruka joined up with us for even more havoc and good times.

If you want to help us do that, you can! All you have to do is “like”, “follow” and “subscribe” to our platforms. If there’s a piece of content you really enjoy, go ahead and share the link to it with others. Helping us to get noticed is an important way that you can help us.

If You Like What We Do…

Want to support us with your hard earned money? That’s awesome too. I’ll even make it easy for you.

To Our Supporters: Thank You!
