We’re Finally Back to Streaming!

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here. It’s been a long time, with life really kicking our asses, namely my ass, but we’re finally back to streaming.

We’ve chosen to cut down to two days a week for now to slowly edge back into things. We’ve changed our days up too. The current schedule looks like this:

Tuesdays: 9:00 PM -12:00 AM (GMT)
Thursdays: 9:00 PM – 12:00 AM (GMT)

Last night, we had Kresh playing “Call of Cthulhu” which is a horror game that’s not actually too scary. Over all, the game is just your typical cosmic horror game. I’ve played a little bit of it myself in the past, just not on stream. Anyway, last night, Kresh played through chapters 1-7, and if you want to check it out, you can do that on our Twitch channel. https://www.twitch.tv/the_demented_ferrets

Also, you know, follow us for more gameplay fun, there will be plenty of it, I’m sure…

Status of the Blog:

So, yeah, as you can very likely guess, just by looking around posts have been just non-existence. Yeah, like I said, life kicked us in the ass hardcore. I’m working on posts, slowly and surely… reviews and opinion pieces mostly, I’m just taking my dear sweet time. I’ll have something out for you guys soon enough. I’m just having problems in the grand scheme of writing…

It happens sometimes, as my few posts about writers block often nod too, although, usually those blogs have to do with fan fiction, you get the idea. It happens, finding the right words can be difficult to properly convey my thoughts. I’m working on it, that’s all I can say…

I’m doing the best I can, we’ll get back into the swing of things… it just might take some time. This year has been rough, but you know, best thing anyone can do about that is keep on going… honestly, I am sooooo ready for this year to be over, but it is what it is.

Anyway, I’ll see you guys soon enough, I guess.

Hey, Kern Here. Just A Life Update, and Writing Content Update!

Hey all, long time no see. Yeah, it’s been a bit, I won’t lie. I wanted to do a brief update and let you all know why there was a lapse in content, and why (hopefully) that’s going to remedy itself soon.

Let me start with the obligatory apology, which of course, is more heartfelt than words on the screen could probably adequately describe. If I sound bitter, it’s because I am a little bit. I shouldn’t have needed to make this post in the first place, shouldn’t need to showcase just what an idiot I can be at time, and I feel like I can’t possibly say anything that really satisfies. I’m more than a little frustrated at myself, so “I’m sorry” really doesn’t feel like enough.

First of all, I’m sorry for the lack of content recently. Truly I am, with my mother’s health acting up as it has, and general life sucking all around, you probably aren’t too thrilled about that.

I’m not either, trust me. I won’t make excuses and say that this absence and lack of written content was entirely out of my hands. There were times I did have time to write, only to sit at a blank white screen and scowl at it. Stress being what it is, and all.

My mother’s blood count is still all over the place. She’s at the emergency room right now in fact, receiving three units of blood. She’s going in on august 3rd for surgery, so yes, my family and I are being as proactive as we can about this… however, to say this doesn’t cause some level of anxiety would be a bold faced lie…. I’ve been exhausted for a long time emotionally, so self-care became important, and the meant stepping away from content for a while.

There were a lot of times I sat down to write only to find myself unsatisfied with the content I had been writing too. I don’t want to produce total crap, but recently it felt like it has been total crap insofar as my drafts are concerned. I don’t want to release complete and total garbage that wouldn’t be enjoyed, and I felt like that would be the way it ended up.

All of that to say, yeah things haven’t been great, my head was up my ass a bit, writers block hit hard, and all-in-all I just wasn’t at my best. That’s the root cause, that’s the reason, I’ll leave it up to you if that’s valid enough or not…

You know, they say a writer is their own worst critic, and I think that’s true. I also think it’s true that sometimes the content we should feel proud of falls short of the mark not because it’s bad content. Far from it, but rather it seems to miss a spark that you just feel isn’t there.

That’s how a lot of my drafts have felt for me. It’s that feeling if dissatisfaction that ultimately clouds and muddies up the mind. Now, I’m a huge fan of what I like to call the “write and toss” and if you read my fan fiction, you’ll know that I often just sort of go with that method because it doesn’t allow you to dwell upon it.

It’s not the same for anime and gaming reviews though, where it is absolutely paramount to consider the finer details of the series and link of the bigger picture. I can’t just write and toss that, but I’ve finally found that spark again. The ebb and flow of writing being what it is, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that I’ve finally written a few pieces of content I can be proud of, so get ready for that.

In any case, there it is… my own stress and idiocy on full display. I’m sorry, and that’s what it all comes down to. Expect content in the following days, it’s already scheduled, so it’ll go out. See you there.

Massive Update: Please Read

Hello everyone, it’s Kern here once again, I hope you will continue to enjoy this content. I’ve got a massive update for you. Firstly, let’s dive into some site related changes.

The “Support Us” page has been changed up a bit, offering a lot less clutter and more overall information on what we do as “The Demented Ferrets”.

The second major change regarding this is the new update to Patreon related tiers. It used to be that we didn’t have a good Patreon tier for blog supporters, but we wanted to change that. Previously, you would have seen a card like this one on our posts:

Don’t forget to follow the blog for more content like this. Want to help keep the blog advertisement free? Please become a patron! This will also get you access into The Demented Ferrets official discord server. Join here today!

However, we’ve come to decide that it wasn’t really fitting for readers of the blog. Yes, keeping the blog free of advertisements as much as we can help it is certainly our main goal. However we felt that wasn’t enough, so I changed the card, and now if you’re a patron, you get more perks.

Going forward, the card now looks like this:

Don’t forget to follow the blog for more content like this. Want to help keep the blog advertisement free? Please become a patron! We have a $1 “Little Ferret” tier that’s perfect for blog readers.

As a “Little Ferret” you will be allowed to help decide topics for the blog and you will have access to patron only updates. Your name will be credited on every post for as long as you are a patron. This will also get you access into The Demented Ferrets official discord server. Join here today!

I think that this is vast improvement, because readers can now have a voice in what content gets written if you choose to join our patron. If you choose not to, don’t worry, you lose nothing. All blog posts going forward will still have a home here regardless if you are a patron or not.

That being said, if you’d like to have a voice in what topics get written or covered, please do consider becoming a supporter.

The first discussion poll is out now for all patrons. A new card thanking patron supporters has also been made:

To Our Supporters: Thank You!

With your contributions, you make our efforts possible. Thank you for supporting our content. Patreon supporters receive access into our official Discord server, and a few other perks depending on the tier.

There is a $1 tier, perfect for blog readers, so don’t hesitate. Join today!

Patreon Supporters

At the time of this post there are 3 supporters of our content, currently all of them are in the “Demented Minion” tier.

($1) Little Ferrets: None
($3) Fandom Ferret: None
($5) Demented Minions: Francis Murphy, Josh Sayer, and Andrew Wheal.
($10) True Blue Ferret: None.
($25) Premium Ferret: None.
($50) Round Table Ferret: None.

Blog Content Additions and Changes

In general, Kern (the one writing this post) is the one that writes and produces all of the content you see here on the blog in written form. This has been the way it has been since Kresh and I started this whole idea.

You’ve probably noticed this, but much of our content is cross-platform to give you a variety of ways to enjoy it. If we have video content added, you can find that video up on our YouTube channel.

When it comes to longer running written media, such as Kern’s in-depth RWBY reviews and analysis they take a long time to make. This is because a video accompaniment is always included. Kern’s Collections take time for that selfsame reason.

That is why the majority of our content here is only in the written form. As games are completed on our live streams and more time is spent producing media, you’ll see the video related content on this blog continue to grow as well.

For the longest time, Kresh was only ever within the confines of live stream content found on our Twitch channel. However, in the coming months, that will also change.

In the future, Kresh will begin to have more of an online presence as more content is produced. As such we have two new images to help clarify what content is being produced by whom.

The blue bordered ferret is Kern, the pink one is Kresh. You can thank Ruka for making these, as she does all of our artwork, so thank goodness for Ruka on that front.

Upcoming Content

Kern has been hard at work preparing blog posts for you all. Known content being released for the rest of May looks like this:

  • Monday (May 24th, 2021) – Kern’s Collections: Death Note (written media and video content).
  • Wednesday (May 26th, 2021) – Kresh Plays: Crash Bandicoot. (written media and archived live stream footage)
  • Friday (May 28th, 2021) – Kern Plays: Dinner with an Owl.
  • Monday (May 31st, 2021) – Anime Review: Your Lie in April (written media)

As you can see, the rest of May is packed with both gaming and anime related content. When it comes to June’s content, that hasn’t been fully decided upon. Before I was the one to decide all of the blog content, but now the poll may impact the scope of content moving forward.

Content you can be sure to expect because it is already in the works is the following:

  • At least 1 “Kern’s Collections” (completely written, video edit in progress).
  • At least 1 “RWBY” analysis (scripting complete, video not yet begun).
  • 2 written game reviews (outlines have begun).
  • 2 written anime reviews (outlines have begun).
  • 2 “Let’s Play” posts (content to be determined).
  • 2 written opinion pieces (content to be determined).

Anything beyond that will depend on the voting suggestions and patron feedback.

Anyway, this has been Kernook of “The Decremented Ferrets”, where stupidity is at its finest, and level grinds are par for the course. I’ll see you next time!

Sabin’s MisADVENTURe (Kern’s suffering).

Hey everyone, it’s Kernook here, or Kern for short. Now I gave you the “proper” The Demented Ferrets update on Monday, but today I wanted to offer something a bit more personal.

We’ll get to this little furry jerk in a moment, and why he decided to find all manners of trouble yesterday, but first the obligatory other updates. If he looks like he’s particularly interested in something, that would be my coffee cup just out of camera shot. He knows morning coffee also means his morning treats, and he knows they’re sitting behind the cup as I type this.

For those who care, you may keep up with how my mother is doing. I sometimes talk about her on this blog.

You may be noticing a lack of blog posts, and that’s because she wasn’t doing very well. On top of video footage kerfuffles regarding Kern’s Collections, and Kresh needed to step away from live streaming for a bit for the last few weeks, everything was a total mess. So, apologies for that complete shit show.

So, anyway, last week Wednesday my mother had a low blood count again, and needed two more units of blood. So that was an 8 hour extravaganza on Wednesday. This week, we have 3 different doctors appointments to attend, one was yesterday, one is today, one is tomorrow.

Also, thank you to all of you who donate blood on a regular basis for the good and support of other people. It saves lives, it really does.

My mother is doing much better for now, but the cause for why she keeps needing the transfusions is an ongoing thing. She’s been seeing doctors, more tests were scheduled. She’s doing okay for the moment, simply tired, but that’s what happens when you get old. She’s in her 70’s, so being tired is to be expected.

In other news, more on The Demented Ferrets related side of things, videos are in production, and scripts are being written (I can’t WAIT for Friday). It’s a long haul kind of thing, life balance is important so we don’t burn out. Kresh and I noticed that our Saturday morning time slot for streaming isn’t working out as well as we would like, so we’ve changed the time as a test.

I’ve listed all of our days/times below, but Saturday is the notable change.

Tuesday: (Normally a FFXI stream of some nature)
9:00 PM – 12:00 AM (GMT)
4:00PM – 7:00 PM (EST)
Wednesday:
9:00 PM – 12:00 AM (GMT)
 4:00PM – 7:00 PM (EST)
Saturday:
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (GMT)
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (EST)

Anyway, that’s what’s going on with that stuff, but let’s move onto the more personal update.

Please don’t forget to follow the blog. You can check out our platforms for great content too! It would be best to follow us on Twitter in order to see all of the content we have to offer as it comes out. This includes gaming live streams, and YouTube video essays regarding anime and other media. If you like what we do, please consider supporting us.

Sabin’s Fun Filled Day (My Torment)

Dad and I toyed around with the yard a bit yesterday since the weather was nice, we have to get it ready for springtime. We’d do more today but it’s not exactly going to be warm. The stupid weather here can’t decide if it wants to warm up or spit sleet everywhere. On that note, Sabin, glorious little fuzzball that he is, attempted to “help” us clean the yard.

This is Sabin, in case you have no idea who I’m talking about. He’s about 15 years old now. Sabin by his nature is mostly a one personal animal. He isn’t very easy to socialize with other people, and that’s just his way. He likes my dad well enough and he tolerates my mother, but he’s my little shadow.

Even as I’m writing this, Sabin is laying across my feet. He rarely leaves my side, and that’s been his habit from kitten-hood. He goes wherever I go around the house, and if I’m not there he affixes himself to my father instead. He is now the only pet I have, as he never took well to any other animals inside the house besides Frisky (the elder cat we had at the time of Sabin being small) and Haley (The family dog we also had at the time).

Really he could use another companion, but he really doesn’t want one. We’ve always considered getting another cat, but Sabin will have none of that idea. Those two really were the only exceptions, and likely because Sabin was so young frightened at the time we got him. He was such a little thing back then.

In his adult life, every time we try to introduce him to another creature, (cat, dog, ferret, bird,) it’s clear he’s not at all happy about the prospect of it saying. The house is usually his territory, and that’s the way it stays. He tolerates the other pets my family bring over when they stay for the summer, but you can tell it’s a grudging toleration at best.

Anyway, I’m always looking for ways to keep him entertained. A good way to do that is to sit out in the yard on warm days and let him have his fun. It’s completely fenced in, so he can’t exactly get into too much trouble if I’m outside with him. During summer he’ll lay around on the pool floats, in the spring and fall he’ll romp around the yard in the grass.

He will also inevitably disrupting any cleaning I’m doing, as he did yesterday. I’m sure he found it great fun to be “helpful”. By help, I mean he tried to climb into every bush I was snipping, tipping over the can of trimmed foliage and climbing into it with glee. He took no small amount of joy in romping around in the worst places (constantly under foot). This on top of harassing every little bug he could find filled his afternoon. He never bothers the wild rabbits, birds or squirrels that come in the yard. For those of you that are worried I’d let a cat roam near the local animals, no need to be. He just watches them, he’s never tried to hurt them.

You know, on that note, I don’t actually think he has any concept that a cat can hunt. Well, at least not anything besides a ball or a squeaky toy. He is also completely terrified of butterflies, which is just too funny considering that his favorite place is under the bird feeders. Which is where ALL the flowers tend to be, and thus also the butterflies. If one comes by, he will absolutely yowl under the nearby table until you chase it away. No I’m not kidding, he hates them. It seems like a real, actual phobia for him.

Maybe it’s because they fly erratically? That’s my best guess. He’s never been a fan of things with sudden movements. Sabin is many things, but a big mighty hunter, he is not. Hes just a coward that likes to find his own brand of havoc. Which leads into the other oh so joyous event of yesterday (note my displeasure). He also climbed the tree. He loves to climb that stupid thing, but I hate when he does that for reasons you will find out in a moment.

It was a fun little adventure I’m sure, except he pointedly needed a bath after he came inside. He had tree sap everywhere, and leaves were sticking to him. I honestly wish I had thought to take a picture of that, it was a sight to behold. I’ve never seen a cat choose to get that dirty in the span of two hours. Well, except for the time he followed the family dog into the mud after a rainstorm, but he was still just a tiny kitten back then. As I said that was well over a decade and a half ago.

Anyway, as you can guess, he desperately needed a bath. Now, before I hear the “never bathe your cat unnecessarily” speech, let me just say I fully agree. You shouldn’t just bathe a cat at whim. However, Sabin is a special case. He’s a very good boy, but he was taken away from his mom when he was too young of a kitten, so he really isn’t the best self-cleaner out there. He never really learned how to be a cat in a lot of ways.

When we got him, he was only just barely 8 weeks old at the time, and considering how small he was, I really do doubt he was even that old. Anyway, developmentally he just didn’t have the time with his mom that he needed to really learn how to be a cat. We were already dog and cat owners when Sabin was a kitten, and he mimicked them a little, especially the dog. However he never really learned the way a normal cat would.

Anyway, in the winter season his terrible skills in cleaning himself usually isn’t a problem. He can’t get dirty enough in the house to require a bath. There’s just nothing that messy for him to get into. In the spring and summer, all bets are off.

Anyway, needlessness to say Sabin protested the bath. It’s not water he hates, it’s the soap. I know it’s the soap because he has no issues playing with the pool water whenever I’m doing laps in the summer, and he’ll play in the bathtub if you fill it up for him. That’s actually a good thing, because nine times out of ten a wet washcloth alone will do the trick, but not this time. This the bath had to be a complete with shampoo. I tried just scrubbing the sap off with washcloth, but that hadn’t been working. So, yeah, full bath for him.

Side note: Always, always, always get the shampoo for your animals from a trusted source. Never randomly use your own hair care products if you can avoid it. Fur is not the same as human hair. If you’re ever in doubt, ask your vet or primary animal care professional. They will tell you what is best to use.

For Sabin, we use the same kitten shampoo from his vet that we’ve used since the day we brought him home as a tiny little ball of fluff. It works, it’s gentle, and there’s no need to change it. Don’t fix what isn’t broken, right?

After he was clean and mostly dry I attempted a picture. As you an see, it didn’t go as well as I would hope.

As soon as I pulled out my phone camera, his retort was to retort was to headbutt and lick the camera on my phone, resulting in this perplexed image. So yeah, that went well.

Thankfully, he was much less difficult to get a nicer photo of later on that night.

So, yes blame this little furry asshole for my torment yesterday. I hate giving him baths more than he hates receiving them. Clearly he’s forgiven me, because he is my little shadow, and he always will be. Also at treats…

Off to the side you can find some more posts. For more about Sabin, you can always follow us on Twitter. There’s a short video of him today, being himself. You can watch it here.

May Mega Update Post

Hi everyone, Kern here. Well, it’s May. The month of April was super stressful, with lots of things going on behind the scenes, but the month has passed us by, and now it’s time to dig into what’s happening for the month of May.

First of all, as you know we’ve switched time slots for Saturday. We didn’t get to really test it out because Kresh was sick on Saturday, so I pulled a later night stream as a result. Next week we will both try to be there with bells on. If not, i’ll do another late night stream again.

Late Night Jurassic World Evolution and The Tenants streams are what’s keeping me occupied the most. Tuesdays contain Final Fantasy XI content, and Wednesdays and Saturdays really depend on what game we happen to be playing.

So with all of that said, let’s get into what you can expect for content for the month ahead.

Live Streaming Content:

  • Random casual late night streams (FFXI, Simulators, whatever Kern feels like)
  • Tuesdays: Primarily FFXI content.
  • Wednesdays: Whatever Kern happens to be playing, with Kresh on co-comm.
  • Saturday: Whatever Kresh happens to be playing, with Kern on co-comm.

We had a lot of real setbacks last month that prevented us from performing at our fullest potential. It wasn’t that we didn’t want to be around more often at our usual times, it was that we couldn’t.

Kresh had some minor surgery that prevented headset wearing for a while. We tested out different set-ups for audio, but none of them sufficed to our liking on such sort notice. That and the simple fact that Kresh needed to recover put us in a tough situation for streaming reguarly like we wanted.

In the meantime, my mother (Reminder: Kern here) has been in and out of several doctors appointments on a weekly basis. If you’ve been around the streams or seen a few of my previous blogs on the subject, you know that her health is an ongoing uphill battle, and has been since last November. With blood transfusions taking place for her every Wednesday for the past 3 weeks, it’s been a bit of a mess, and one that my family is still sorting out.

Hopefully my late night streaming has provided adequate content for my absence. I’m doing the absolute best that I can.

YouTube Video Content:

The struggle is real here. You may notice that there is more gameplay content than edited videos. That’s because edited content takes so long to make. We are doing our absolute best though, you can be sure of that.

Later this week the RWBY White Trailer Review will be released (with the included blog post here, as you can expect). Hopefully you’ll enjoy it.  I really hope you do.

Other content planned comes in the form of more Kern’s Collections, and a new segment is also coming called “Kern’s Character Spotlight”. I have high hopes that you will come to enjoy these segments as we continue to work on getting them out.

The Blog:

The meat and potatoes of this post for all of you can be found here, because this is the blog. As usual our blog stands as our most diverse and robust section of content we offer, with all sorts of things to be had.

The video format of Kern’s Collections, reviews, and analysis come accompanied with the written script here. When the Character Spotlights videos come out, they will be treated the same way.

On top of anime, gaming and fandom related content there are other bits and pieces here too, and I hope our website will only continue to grow in number as time marches on.

Written reviews in the works for gaming Include Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (the 90’s one). Once I’m finished with that, I’ll move away to a few non-horror rated titles for a while. I’m not sure what yet, but something. I have a few outlines, but nothing I’m ready to announce.

For anime, I’m working on a Claymore review.

Kern’s Collections posts upcoming in the process include Emma: A Victorian Romance and we’re still trying to sort out the Death Note video so that it can accompany the blog.

Character Spotlight outlines are still being worked on, but you’ll see the first one this month if all goes well.

Artwork/Other:

We have Ruka hard at work designing some stream cards and other things when Ruka isn’t helping me with video content. There isn’t much to say here except that artwork is in fact being worked on.

In Closing:

All in all, we’re all hard at work doing our best to provide you with the content we can, in the way best we can. It’s a bit rocky, no one can deny that, but we are doing our best to provide you guys wonderful entertainment, and we hope you enjoy it.

Hey Everyone, it’s Kernook here. This blog has been around for a short while now. Before we get to that, I want to remind you all that we have a new time slot for our Saturday streams going forward. You can find us over on Twitch. New Saturday time: 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (GMT).

We hope to see you there. Now, with that out of the way, let’s discuss gaming content. If you’re up for it, please answer the polls, as it would be a great help to us.

New Streaming Time: Saturday Change

Hey everyone, it’s Kernook here. It’s time for another little update about what’s going on behind the scenes. Our numbers have been good or at least decent for Tuesday and Wednesday stream blocks, we are growing (it is just incredibly slowly). However, that being said, we’re not happy with Saturday’s numbers.

To attempt to fix this, we’re changing time slots. We will now stream at 3:00-6:00 PM (GMT) That means that in the Eastern USA you can expect us to begin at 10:00 AM.

We hope this will allow us to reach a wider audience going forward. We will see you there!

The home page and support us page have been changed to reflect the new time slot. Also expect a bit of a site changes over the next few weeks as I adjust things.

Hello everyone, Kern here. Some brief life updates before we get into the meat of the post. If you’ve been reading the blog, or watching the live streams, you may have heard me talking about my mother’s health, or lack of it.

My mother is doing a little better, and she is now home from the hospital. We still have a long way to go, though.

Blog content will continue as of April 5th on it’s usual days. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As promised, new content is coming this month in April. Here’s what you can expect…

New YouTube Content:

Starting April 5th, new content will be released on our YouTube channel. This will include anime related reviews, and RWBY related review and analysis content. The bulk of this content will be short form at first, and known as “Kern’s Collections”.

As promised, patrons will receive these videos a day early.

These videos are scripted and edited by me (Kernook) and edited by our artist (Ruka). Sorry again that it’s taken so long to get these out, but things have just been difficult to do with my mom previously being so ill, and the fact that all of us ferrets can’t yet afford to make this a full time job.

We’re low budget. that’s a fact. In order to get the equipment for proper audio recordings, I need a studio quality microphone, and I’ll be purchasing that when funds allow. I also need to get a few sound dampening squares to hang on the wall.

Streaming Content:

This has not changed. We will still do streams every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at the usual times when life life permits. I will also stream on off days on occasion as I have been doing when I can.

Final Fantasy VI will be completed in a few more streams, and Final Fantasy XI will be streamed regularly as well as we continue to do missions and progress to end game content. We play on the Nocturnal Souls private server, and will continue to do so.

Other games will be played as we see fit. Yes, I will eventually finish Sonic Adventures DX.

We will not be streaming on Saturday, April 3rd, as that is Easter weekend. It is a holiday for many, and otherwise a busy time. I may do a solo stream, but we shall see.

Blog:

Content will go out once more April 5th on the normal days which are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Continuing reviews for anime and gaming content are in the works.

New “Kresh plays” will be added as content permits.

Most importantly as it pertains to the blog, “Kern’s Collections” general scripts and videos will be posted here.

Needless to say, April comes with a wealth of content across platforms, and we hope to see you there.

This has been Kernook of “The Demented Ferrets”…

You Wouldn’t Go To An End Game Raid without Being Geared. So, Why Would You Wander Around Without Your Mask? – A Rant

Hey guys, it’s Kernook here. It’s time we have a little chat. My mother had a stroke back in November. This weekend she had to go in for three blood transfusions because her platelets are super low. Where I live, hospitals have been restricted to one visitor due to the Covid-19 protocols. She doesn’t have Covid-19, but this effects us, because today they tightened the restrictions, and no visitors are allowed inside.

I can’t even see my own mother. So those of us not even battling Covid-19 directly are being impacted by the idiots choosing not to be careful, and to me this is just not acceptable. That it needs to get to this point this late in the game is just absurd.

Blog posts may be late for a while, because frankly I’ve got bigger fish to fry. Same with YouTube, don’t expect archived videos for a while. I have bigger shit to tackle. However, this is one post that needs to be made, and it needs to be made today!

Perhaps this is just my logic as a gamer, but that’s just not how you play a game, and it’s not how you live life.

You don’t fight a big boss without drinking your potions and elixirs, buffing your raid, eating the right foods and being ready to face down that new boss that you’re about to fight.

This is what we MMORPG gamers do. We do it every raid night. We have no issue doing it every day, because to be a gamer you want to be at your best. You want to be an asset to your team.

If a raid was dying to a boss while being ill-prepared for over a year, that raid would have some serious breakdowns in communication and stability as a team. Some bosses are called “guild killers” for a reason.

Well, Covid-19 is our real world guild killer. It’s breaking down communication, it’s messing with our economy, and it’s dividing people. It is doing everything an end game boss in an MMORPG is capable of doing, and it’s doing it to the fullest.

When bosses drop what we call “AOE’s” or “Area of Effects” on the ground, we don’t stand in it for a reason. We don’t just go in unprepared. Our healers provide support, and we do our best to mitigate the damage. As many raiders say…

Don’t stand in stupid!

Come on raiders, we know the drill here. No, really, we do.

Covid-19 is one big ass “AoE” that has shit on the entire world, and it’s hurting people. Instead of collectively mitigating the damage as any good raid might, many are choosing to stand directly in the middle of it without that mitigation.

We have some people choosing to believe this isn’t real. That it is still, a year later, not a big deal. As though it’s a video game, or a figment of our imaginations. As if it’s not something to take seriously.

They don’t think we need masks, and don’t believe Covid-19 is still a pervading threat. These are the same sort of people that raiders would call scrubs in gaming. They’d be put on blacklists and kicked from raid groups for not being prepared.

Why? Because they are choosing to wipe the raid. They are choosing to hold ALL of us back from downing the boss.

You don’t get to play in the big leagues if you don’t pull your head out of your butt, listen to your raid leader and work as a team.

In Rift, back in the day when you had to fight the Matriarch of Pestilence that boss would put an “AoE” onto a player. That player had to run out of the group, or risk dropping that “AoE” down on the entire raid. It would kill a raid. So, what did we do? When didn’t spread the “AoE” we kept it away from the raid.

If you’re a raider, you’ve likely faced a boss like this. If you’re a gamer at all, you’ve likely taken down a boss that does something at least kind of similar.

Know what we should be keeping away from each other? Covid-19. The same rules apply. If you have the AoE, don’t spread it. If you know the boss does something that’ll impact the raid, you drink the right mitigation potions. You wear the right gear.

If most gamers can figure that crap out in a simulated environment, people working and living in the “real world” should have no issue grasping this concept. It’s not difficult, it’s not complicated.

Our front line workers are our paladins, clerics, mages and bards. They are both our tanks, and our healers. They are our raid leaders for our communities. We need to heed their calls.

When they said put on your mask, they’re saying that because they can’t just magically cast a little bubble to protect you. Real life is not a game, and choosing to defy these raid leaders now is putting everyone at risk. Not all guilds have good raid leaders, and not every doctor on the planet is giving the best advice.

When we lose people in real life, we can’t just cast a “raise” or a “revive” them. They’re gone, and they’re gone for good. It’s actual permadeath.

So, stop being selfish. Think of your community as your raid, and Covid-19 as the boss we have to down. I realize this is going to go over a non-gamer’s head. That most people won’t care about this and I may just be shouting into the void. You know what, I’m fine with that.

At least if I shout loud enough, maybe someone will hear. If just one person reads this and chooses to put their mask on the next time they go out, or think a little more carefully before hosing that next big party, then that’s a success.

That’s a mini-boss I’ve taken down, and as a gamer I’d take pride in that.

If you want the achievement of downing Covid-19, we need to raid together. This is not a boss you can beat alone. You don’t go into a new 10 man raid with three people and expect to win. You don’t go into a new raid without having the right mitigation and equipment.

So next time you leave your house, wear a mask. Get good gamers, and lead the charge, because society has their thumbs up tier asses on this one. It’s been a year, the boss is still active. We’re out of mana and our abilities are on cooldown. If we don’t want that enrage timer going off, we really need to down this boss, and down it now.

I have long concluded that it’s up to us to lead by example. To show the rest of the world that we know how to deal with this, and do it better than them. In a world where gamers are often treated like total crap by the mass media, this is a fight we know how to face down.

This is a fight we know how to mitigate.

We know to listen to our raid leaders. We know you need to have the right gear score. We know that we can’t just drop boss “AoE” and debuffs wherever we please. We know that you have to let the tanks be the tank, and the healers do the healing.

We know this isn’t a fight we can win unless those in the top tier guilds lead by example, so the scrubs can figure it out too. With the vaccines out, we’ve got the DPS to take down this boss. With our masks and social distancing, we’ve got the mitigation to tank this thing until then…

There’s no excuse anymore. We have to take this boss down, or progression ends here. Think about that.

Ever since the days of EverQuest, Final Fantasy XI (and FFXIV), WoW and Rift, we’ve been trained to handle these concepts on their most basic levels. So let’s get good and lead the scrubs. Let’s take down this boss and get back to normal.

Lead by example, gamers! Get geared, get good, and let’s do what we need to do.

This is a fight we know how to win. Stop faffing around and let’s just beat this thing already…

FEBRUARY Update 2021

Hey everyone, Kernook here. It’s time to bring you all a quick monthly update of sorts. As of writing this post it’s the first of February, 2021.

For those of you who are following this blog regularly, it’s great to see you here. For those who’ve just stumbled upon this post feel free to look around. We’ve got a bit of content regarding anime and gaming, with more coming in the future. I’ve been working hard to get new content out and to put old content back where it needs to be.

I just want to give you a quick update about what’s going on across all of our other platforms. if you’re here, you already likely know of the blog so let’s move onto the other platforms.

Twitter:

Follow us on Twitter for all of our updates. I stream several times a week with Kreshenne, but I also do solo streams too when it suits me. The solo streams have no set schedule because I am still sorting that out. Following us on Twitter just allows you to see what we’re up to. Especially if I’ve announced that we’ve gone live for the second time that day.

As of this post we have 3 patron supporters and earn roughly $13 a month.

Twitch:

With duo streams happening every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday weekly content is abundant. I’ve been streaming solo as well a few days a week. Sometimes I have a friend co-commentate with me as well. Recent content includes:

We have other content too, so be sure to check it out. Please don’t forget to follow our other platforms, as it really helps us out of you do.

YouTube:

Mostly this is acting as an archive of game footage. I have other uses for it such as analysis videos and reviews, but none of that is ready yet, and I don’t know when it will be.
