Mach 20 Misfits: Alt-Rock Anthem Inspired by Assassination Classroom

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with a fan song for Assassination Classroom. The anime is an older one at this point. It came out back in 2015, so it’s been a bit of time. That being said, it’s one of the anime I still really like a lot and I wanted to do a fan song for it.

Ever felt like the world wrote you off before you even had a chance to speak? “Mach 20 Misfits” is our alt-rock love letter to the underdogs; the students of Class 3-E from Assassination Classroom, who were thrown away by the system, only to rise stronger under the unlikeliest of teachers.

This track brings together gritty guitar riffs, raw vocals, and a cinematic choir that captures the spirit of rebellion, transformation, and heart. Inspired by the emotional depth and chaotic brilliance of anime like Assassination Classroom, this rock anthem channels that inner fight and the push against failure, the pain of growth, and the bond between outcasts who finally find their spark.

If you’re into high impact, anime-inspired alt rock with epic builds and a choir that punches through the noise, this one’s for you. We wanted this song to feel like what it means to stand on the edge of everything, knife in hand, heart wide open, and still choose to become something more. Turn it up loud. Scream it out. This is rebellion.

Until next time everyone, this has been Kern of The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at its finest and level grinds are par for the course.

First of all, let me just say may everyone here have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We have two songs to celebrate the holiday season.

FAIL – Fallen Angels in Limelight

Hey all, it’s Kern here… I should have gotten around to this sooner, but I’m back to writing reviews again, the likes of which will start being posted sometime next month. Until then, I wanted to let you know about one of our ongoing projects.

Aside from fan songs and the City of Shadows universe, Kresh and I have other projects going on all the time…. when it comes to FAIL, this is a project Kresh has been heavily steeped in.

I wanted to do a proper post introducing you all to Fallen Angels in Limelight (FAIL). This is a virtual band project created by The Demented Ferrets. Blending a mix of gothic aesthetics with glam rock, synth, and metal influences. This is AI powered music, with humans written lyrics. The project explores dramatic storytelling, emotional themes, and stylized visuals. Every track is written, arranged, and produced using a mix of AI tools and human direction. The goal isn’t to mimic reality, but rather, to create something new, expressive, and creatively bold.

With the launch of the new FAIL channel a few weeks back we also posted up a new single for it. So without further delay, I introduce you to FAIL!

Make sure to follow us over on the channel to hear music right as it’s released. I’ll post it here as well, but at a much slower rate so it really is imperative to follow the channel.

Fallen Angels in Limelight began on our The Demented Ferrets channel as just a side project that Kresh was tinkering with. As it grew and began to take shape in her mind we felt it best to branch it off into its own channel. City of Shadows 2 is being released over on FAIL, so if you like the plot of City of Shadows, be sure to check it out over there, thanks!

That’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed the song.

RWBY Fan Song: A Letter to Winter Schnee

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here, coming at you with a Weiss Schnee related fan song, and a letter she might have written to Winter early in volume 1. This is just head canon, but the song resonates well, I’d say. When I wrote this song, I wanted to paint Winter as the trusted role model that Weiss knows her to be, while equally banking on busted ego Weiss seems to have in the very early segments of RWBY Volume 1.

I wanted to do a Weiss fan song that’s more “fan fiction” than realty, although these themes are present in the show for sure. We set the stage with Weiss sending a letter to sister because we get no Winter Schnee in V1… so, yeah… this would take place in the ensuing days after the initiation, before she fully acclimates to Peter’s advice.

Hope you like the song!

Lyrics:
[Verse 1] Dearest Winter, I write from this madhouse they call a school, Where chaos reigns and no one minds the rules. You told me to be strong, to lead, to stand with pride… But by Dust, I swear this place is testing every ounce of me inside.

[Verse 2] Ruby, my own team leader — younger by two years, Still acts like a child with no sense of her peers. She doodles in class while we study the Grimm, And skips through the halls on a juvenile whim. Yang, her sister, slams through halls with fists and flair, She calls it ‘training’ when she throws me through the air. Horseplay, roughhousing, shouting without shame… And somehow I’m the one always taking the blame.

[Chorus] Oh Winter, what happened to order and grace? It’s just hall brawls and pillow wars taking place. I try to speak sense, try to bring a little class… But I may as well talk to broken glass. You told me I’d grow, you’d help me rise, But this is madness — not training — in disguise.

[Verse 3] And Blake, mysterious, quiet, and bold, She stares like I’ve done something wicked and cold. She speaks my name with bitter disdain, As if I forged the contracts, as if I caused the pain. I barely know her, but she acts so severe… Judging our family, as if I brought us here.

[Bridge] But Pyrrha… she’s different, a light, sincere, A champion’s heart, and the only one near Who listens, who cares, who gets this facade, The struggle to lead when they treat rules as fraud. With her, I’m not lost in this swirling parade, She sees the girl, not the name or the blade.

[Chorus] Oh Winter, I miss your quiet tone, The echo of your boots on marble stone. I miss your voice, your steadiness, your stare, Here, I’m adrift — and most don’t seem to care. They laugh, they shout, they dance in fire… While I sit here, drained, barely inspired.

[Outro] So, I write you this letter, while I’m away, And you’re serving Atlas in your own way. But if you can spare a moment to write, Please remind me that I’m not right. That the world still holds reason, logic and purpose dear, Because without that thought, I may not last here. Your sister, striving to stay composed… Weiss Schnee… …… An official student of Beacon Academy….

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: RWBY Black Trailer Reaction

Hey all, it’s Kern here. For those who might have missed it over on YouTube, our reaction to the RWBY Black trailer is now up for your viewing pleasure and hilarity. Subjecting Kresh to RWBY is all about doing exactly that, introducing Kresh to the RWBY series. Kern is a long time fan of the show, and Kresh has never actually sat down to watch it. Between the two of us, it’s time to experience the series together.

Please support the official release, the show really is worth the watch if you’ve already got a subscription anyway. If you don’t have one, maybe try out the trailers over on RWBY YouTube first, and then go from there to decide if it’s worth continuing for you.

At the time of this post, RWBY is now on Hulu for those in the USA, and from what I understand the series is also on Apple TV for some places outside of the USA.

You can follow our personal reactions with the full playlist here.

As for this reaction video, it’s time to meet Blake Belladonna, and Adam Taurus… as a long time fan of the show, every single time I watch this trailer, I can’t help but feel nostalgic. There’s so much story telling embedded deeply into this trainer, moments that hindsight becomes 20/20 for later on in the series. All of the trailers are like that a little bit, but none of them quite reach Blake’s level in the RWBY Black Trailer.

The fights in this thing are solid, of course. A partner battle on a high speed train, waves of enemies, not to mention a huge mech… what’s not to like? Seriously, for the earliest days of RWBY, this trailer embeds a few key ideological opinions deep within the narrative, but it never feels too heavy. It really is just surface level for now, but that changes later when the series really kicks off.

It’s crazy to think this is the first trailer ever that we fans got to experience voice acting back when the trailer first released. The first two trailers were reliant on the songs and visual storytelling entirely to carry the weight of the plot. Then, the RWBY Black Trailer came thundering in, on a literal train no less, and smashed our expectations to bits… it was so long ago, and yet sometimes I can recall that feeling just like it was yesterday.

In any case, I hope you enjoyed our reaction to this trailer, and we’ll catch you in the next reaction video where we’ll be watching the RWBY Yellow Trailer… that video will go out next week on Tuesdays (assuming all goes according to plan, lol).

This has been Kernook, of The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at it’s finest and level grinds are par for the course. I’ll catch you next time. Meanwhile, not super long ago I did a fan song for this trailer, and that’s below. If you like RWBY fan songs, give it a listen…

Don’t forget to check out some other fun content below. We’ve got a lot of different projects going, and more to come down the pipeline later on. Sit tight and enjoy the ride.

RWBY Fan Song: Heart Metallic

Hey all, it’s Kern here! For this song I wanted to focus on the semblance Weiss keeps, and the mysticism surrounding the Schnee semblance in the early volumes of the series.

RWBY Fan Song: Ride With Me

Hey All, it’s Kern here with another fan song for the RWBY fandom. This one is a Blake and Yang shipping story, with very little that’s focused on canon.

RWBY Fan Song: Breaking Free

I wanted the song to reflect a more upbeat ideology of Weiss breaking free of certain family molds, and sectional ideologies. I wanted it to be light-hearted, powerful, with sweeping vocals and in a power ballad style.

Final Fantasy VI Fan Song: Call Me Thief (Locke Cole)

Hey all, it’s Kern here dropping you a fan song about Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy 6, or Final Fantasy 3 if you play it on the SNES). Locke is introduced early in Final Fantasy VI as a charismatic rogue with a knack for sneaking, stealing, and looking good while doing it. He’s got fast hands, and faster comebacks. On the surface, he’s your classic RPG rogue (or Final Fantasy Thief).

He’s witty, agile, a little bit flirty, and fiercely independent… or, so it seems…

From the moment he appears, it’s clear there’s something more behind the smirk. Locke isn’t just here for riches or fun. He’s hurting. Everything he does, every fight he throws himself into, every damsel he tries to save, every relic he chases down is driven by something deeper: guilt, loss, and a desperate need to protect what he couldn’t protect before.

So enter in this fan song, “Call Me Thief” a tribute to Locke Cole, and who he actually is as a person. I wanted the song to reflect his passing as well as his caution. His values, and his contradictions. What he holds privately, and what he wears openly on his sleeve.

Locke Cole is probably one of the most compelling characters in Final Fantasy VI. Honestly, although he is not my all-time favorite, he stands solidly in the top 3 characters I most resonate with when playing through the game. If you liked the song, please consider subscribing to us both here on the blog or over on YouTube for more gaming fan songs like this.

Remember, we play games over on Twitch as well, so come by and say hello. You can catch us streaming for a few hours a few times a week.

STARBOUND – A Synthwave Journey Amid the Stars

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with a synthwave album that we’ve slowly been trickling out onto YouTube over the past few weeks. This is a short, experimental album, but if you like stories like this one with a synthwave and science fiction bent then make sure to like the videos, leave comments, and maybe follow us over on our channel. The more engagement from you readers on our channel, the better for us. The more we know what kind of music you like to listen to, the more chances we have to make that style of music.

The Starbound album comes to you from the mastermind of Kresh, and there’s a loose narrative to be found across the album about an AI learning about their own humanity and person-hood. It’s also much shorter than our glam rock/glam metal City of Shadows universe, which is now in its second album.

As for me, when it comes to Starbound, my personal favorites from this album are probably Nebula Drift and Blackout Horizon. For me, those two just hit perfectly. Nebula Drift just feels like you’re moving through outer space in the best way possible, and Blackout Horizon is about getting sucked into a black hole, what isn’t to like, really?

Tracks go in the order found below, or you can just check out the full playlist here.

The final song, Earthbound caps off this short adventure through the stars as our hero heads home, and what a journey it’s been. With today finally bringing the end to the album, you can now find the mp.3s up on our Patreon for those who want them.

Hopefully you enjoyed the ride. This has been Kern of The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at it’s finest, and level grinds are par for the course! Check out some of our other playlists and musical collections below.

Rainbow Rodeo – A LGBTQIA Pride Album

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with a mostly country music album with two bonus songs. The goal with this album was just to spread a little pride through the LGBTQIA community to our best ability. Personally I had a blast making the majority of it, and Kresh came in strong with the final two songs. I hope you like it.

Song 1: Rainbow Rodeo – This is just a fun song over all, and is meant to capture the spirit of the album. It’s a lot of glitter, glam, and honky-tonk country music. Rainbow Rodeo is just a celebration of the LGBTQIA life, and all that it can be. Own your truth, and have a good time with one.

Song 2: We Belong to the Open Road – This one is a little gritty, a lot of fun, I wanted this song to reflect that real honky-tonk grit found in country music. This is more for those who have a small community or no community at all. I wanted to reflect a unity among the community, and that can be cultivated when we go searching for it.

Song 3: Fudge, Wine, and Just a Lil’ Somethin’ – This is a gritty romance song between two women, nothing much else to say about it… lol, the story tells the story all on its own.

Song 4: Open The Door – This is a feel good “coming out” song. It’s about love, acceptance, and walking out from the shadows to air all of the things that those in the closet often don’t feel comfortable saying. This song celebrates empathy, pride, and finding the courage to finally just come out and live your truth.

Song 5: Darling – Another romance song, although this one is a little more tender. Less about partying, and finding that committed, long term relationship.

You can get the above songs on our Patreon.

The two Bonus Tracks are only in the video for now, and will release in a separate compilation later.

Song 6: Shine in Every Shade – A glam rock addition made by Kresh. This one is also about the coming process, and finding strength in one’s self and those around them.

Song 7: Unveiled (REMAKE) – This was a hardcore remake of our original song, using our bands TDF and FAIL. Also a duet, this song goes hard now! Enjoy this one, it’s amazing!

Well, that’s all for now everyone. I hope you enjoy this album, it was a lot of fun to make, and be sure to check out our other songs and content!

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: RWBY White Trailer

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here! Last week, we reacted to the RWBY Red Trailer. This week, we react to the RWBY White Trailer, where we both notice a lot of Final Fantasy references, particularly those from Final Fantasy XI. I’m a long time fan, and Kresh has never seen the series before. Hopefully we can lend a new perspective with our reaction content because we are such big Final Fantasy fans (as well as other fandom) as well, so those nods stick out to us…

Lots of Red Mage references from Final Fantasy series in this one…

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY (RWBY “Red” Trailer)

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here. You asked for it, and you now receive it. We’re subjecting Kresh to RWBY to get her reaction live. She’s never actually watched the RWBY series before, so we’re doing it now! I get to relive my love of this franchise with someone who’s never gotten to experience it, and with my absolute best friend besides.

With the RWBY Volume 10 announcement, and the release of RWBY on Hulu thanks to Viz Media, the future of the show looks bright. Without further typing and rambling, here’s the video:
