RWBY Fan Song: What I’m Sorry For

Hey all, it’s Kern here, hope you like this one. It was a fun go! This is a Raven fan song, obviously and it’s about Yang. It’s been posted for a while now over on YouTube, but I only just got around to posting it here as well. Please don’t forget to like and subscribe. Thanks everyone!

Lyrics are in the video. I did my best to encompass all that Raven’s personality had to offer when it comes to her conflicting emotions and the way she views the concept of family. I’d like to think I did her some level of justice, but let me know what you think.

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here! I’m coming at you with a RWBY fan song for the Freezer burn pair (Weiss and Yang). These two are amazing, even if they aren’t a canon ship. I hope you enjoy it!

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: The Shinning Beacon Part 2

We’re back with more Subjecting Kresh to RWBY. In the last episode Ruby was having a rough start at Beacon before the initiation, but she did meet a new friend in Jaune, so there’s that at least.

This time around Yang tries to be a supportive big sister, but that might just backfire a little bit! Blake just wants to read, Weiss just wants to sleep, Yang wants Ruby to make a few buddies… and as for Ruby? She just wants to fit in as the “normal girl, with normal knees”. Unfortunately for her, things aren’t going completely as planned.

Let’s see how much Kresh likes this episode, shall we? It should be a fun romp through the first night at Beacon Academy (so long as you’re not Weiss and Blake, lol).

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: Volume 1, Chapter 1 Ruby Rose

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here, coming at you with the first actual episode of RWBY Volume 1, and Kresh’s reaction to it. In this episode, Kresh gets to see my favorite male villain, and my all time favorite character…

RWBY Fan Song: Autograph

This one is called Autograph, and the reason I made it was because I was inspired by Volume 1 of the series where Ruby comes into contact with Glynda for the first time.

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: RWBY Black Trailer Reaction

Hey all, it’s Kern here. For those who might have missed it over on YouTube, our reaction to the RWBY Black trailer is now up for your viewing pleasure and hilarity. Subjecting Kresh to RWBY is all about doing…

RWBY Fan Song: Pieces Won’t Fit

Since Kresh and I just got out of the Emerald Forest plot line in “Subjecting Kresh to RWBY”, I really wanted to do a tribute to their earliest most chaotic days when they do nothing but argue and fail to have that team synergy we all know and love. The song is from Glynda’s perspective. I hope you like this one!

The lyrics are in the video for this one, so I’m not going to type them all out here. The song is also on Patreon for those who help support our content! There is a lot moreover there to check out too, if you want to! The same goes with our Youtube.

RWBY Fan Song: Night on the Train

For this song, I really wanted to highlight Blake’s understanding that running away from Adam and the White Fang was always going to be a double edged sword.

RWBY Fan Song: Heart Metallic

Hey all, it’s Kern here! For this song I wanted to focus on the semblance Weiss keeps, and the mysticism surrounding the Schnee semblance in the early volumes of the series.

RWBY Fan Song: Loneliness Like Mine

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here! I’m coming at you with a RWBY fan song for the Freezer burn pair (Weiss and Yang). These two are amazing, even if they aren’t a canon ship. I hope you enjoy it!

For this song I wanted to do something that sounded a little bit on the lazy/casual side, almost as though the two of them were actually messily singing while sitting on the side of the bed, almost in an “unplanned” style so to speak.

I wanted it to feel like it’s coming off the top of their heads as they’re going along, which is why some or both voices sometimes dips in and out, just like it would if you’ve ever been singing with one of your friends in the car or something, and you know the other person is the better singer…

In that particular moment in the RWBY series, a quiet and profound introspection takes place for Yang and Weiss, and I wanted the song to carry that uneasy tonality along with the comfort of having each other nearby. If you like this song, please don’t forget to like, subscribe, and leave a comment over on YouTube… it helps a lot.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1] Silent halls, I walk alone, Walls I built, cold as stone. Words I keep, never shown, A heart too proud to call my own.
[Pre-Chorus] I see your shadow, burning bright, A fire that steadies my frozen night. Though I falter, though I hide, You reach across, no need to fight.
[Chorus] Loneliness like mine… …I’ve felt it too. No hand to hold, no light to guide… I’ll be there through. Together: In the silence, in the dark we find, Strength in hearts we never thought aligned.
[Verse 2] Every scar a story told, Of battles lost, of courage bold. Yet in your laughter, I feel whole, A fractured soul with a kindred soul.
[Pre-Chorus] I hear your voice, it cuts the chill, A warmth that bends my rigid will. Though I stumble, though I break, Your steadfast fire keeps me awake.
[Chorus] Loneliness like mine… …I’ve felt it too. No hand to hold, no light to guide… …I’ll be there through. Together: In the silence, in the dark we find, Strength in hearts we never thought aligned.
[Bridge] Maybe I don’t say it enough, Maybe my walls are too tough. But in your gaze, I see the truth, Even the lonely can find proof. [Final Chorus Loneliness like mine… …I’ve felt it too. No hand to hold, no light to guide… …I’ll be there through. In the silence, in the dark we find, Strength in hearts we never thought aligned.

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: The Shining Beacon Part 1

We’re back, with more Subjecting Kresh to RWBY where we’ve started Volume 1, survived through the first episode’s set-up and made it to Beacon Academy. In this next episode, The Shining Beacon Part 1, our four main girls hit the campus with sparks flying (and a little bit of red dust to go along with it).

Ruby crashes into Weiss by accident, Blake acts a little catty, and Yang’s enjoying the campus life to her fullest as she buggers off with her signal buddies. This really is just a set-up episode more than anything, giving the main cast moments to play off of each other.

Catch up on our full YouTube playlist here:

This episode, much like the last, really comes down to needing to start “somewhere” and this episode is quite short in comparison to the last one. That’s probably the main issue with Volume 1 in general is that the episode lengths fluctuate wildly. While some are almost 12+ mins in length, others barely break the 5 min mark.

All in all, Kresh found it enjoyable, even though Weiss comes out of the gate fairly snootily, and Blake’s really no better. It’ll be like that through Volume 1, for better and much, much worse. Personally, I think Ruby makes the strongest showing in this episode, where as Blake and Weiss have fairly unclear motivations and personality traits this early on.

Honestly, if you took them at face value, you wouldn’t see much of what they’re about… long time fans know better than to take either of these two at face value because often emotions get away from them early on.

Jaune makes his first real appearance, and it’s a strong one if you ask me. He’s genuinely likable here where he isn’t always so later on as the series continues onward. Jaune has moments of true insufferably, but that in middling Volume 1 plot lines.

Like the last episode, I do happen to have a few fan songs regarding the events in this episode.

Well, that’s about all from me for now. Watch the reaction video for yourself to hear our simplified opinions and to see how Kresh feels about it all. There’s not too much to discuss in this one, so we’ll see you next time.

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: Volume 1, Chapter 1 Ruby Rose

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here, coming at you with the first actual episode of RWBY Volume 1, and Kresh’s reaction to it. In this episode, Kresh gets to see my favorite male villain, and my all time favorite character in the entire series (Glynda Goodwitch).

So, let’s enjoy a good dust shop heist, and Glynda laying down the law about Ruby’s vigilante justice. Also, Roman’s cigar, because that poor thing gets squished terribly… what a waste of fine tobacco, am I right?

Start at the beginning of the playlist for this reaction content by going here (YouTube Playlist)

The whole point of this episode is to establish the main character motivations for Ruby and set her up to go to Beacon Academy two years early. Due to basically being in the wrong place, at the wrong time (namely the dust shop that Roman robs), Ruby shows off her combat skill. This gets her noticed by the headmaster of Beacon Academy and Professor Glynda Goodwitch.

Although Ruby’s two years too early to be attending Beacon, and if Glynda had her way Ruby would be sent home “with a pat on the back, and a slap on the wrist”, Ozpin has the final say. When Ruby admits that she wants to go to Beacon Academy “more than anything”, her fate is basically sealed.

As far as RWBY Volume 1 is concerned, this is an establishing episode for the series and only really functions to be that… nothing more. The airship battle is pretty much the highlight moment. As far as even the Volume 1 fights or the trailers preceding them are concerned, this is a pretty weak fight over all. Still, it does what it sets out to do, and it provides a mostly solid start to the series.

Personally I really like this episode, but I knew to expect it’s relative weakness because I’ve seen the series so many times. I wasn’t sure that Kresh would like it, but I was pleasantly surprised… then again, as Kresh says, they had to start somewhere. That’s kind of the theme for the first few episodes of the show, and it’s a good thing that her expectations weren’t too high because Volume 1 doesn’t really start getting good until Emerald Forest related plots, and the eventual “The Stray” and “Black and White” story lines that really make Volume 1 what it becomes.

I’ve actually made a lot of fan songs for the characters and events that play out here in the episode. You can find them here in event order:

Hopefully you enjoyed our reactions to this episode, and you’ll stick around for next time when we finally get to the Beacon Academy campus. Until next time everyone! This had been Kern, of The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at it’s finest and level grinds are par for the course.

STARBOUND – A Synthwave Journey Amid the Stars

The Starbound album comes to you from the mastermind of Kresh, and there’s a loose narrative to be found across the album about an AI learning about their own humanity and person-hood. It’s also much shorter than our glam rock/glam metal City of Shadows universe, which is now in its second album.

Rainbow Rodeo – A LGBTQIA Pride Album

Stage Left, Exit Flame

The song is about breakups and new beginnings as lesbian lovers end their relationship. One walks out, and the one left behind picks up the pieces in her life. It’s as empowering as it is a little sad

RWBY Fan Song: Silver and Ice (White Rose)

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with another RWBY fan song, this time centering around Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee, or “WhiteRose” to those who sail the ship.

RWBY Fan Song: A Pair of Roses (White Rose) Tribute

This project is a combo between Kresh and I. I wrote the lyrics, and Kresh got the sound we wanted out of the AI we use. I thought it was only fitting that this project featuring the dynamic White Rose duo get star treatment from the Demented ferrets duo that work on the songs on our channel (Kresh and I).

If you like her sound, check out her music, and Fallen Angels in Limelight too… seriously, if you like this, I’m sure there are others that you’ll just love.

I absolutely love these characters and what they bring to the table. Ruby and Weiss are a really strong partnership duo in the series, and for this song I tried to hone in on that as much as possible.

Lyrics:

Verse 1: Side by side, we stand in the fray, You hold your ground, I rush ahead each day. A partner’s trust in every move, In the quiet moments, our hearts improve. Through the storm, we find our pace, Your steady hand, my wild race. A glance, a word, a simple sign, In the silence, we both align.

Pre-Chorus: In every strike, in every fight, You’re the calm, I’m the silver light. We stand as one, together we rise, With every challenge, we meet each surprise.

Chorus: We move in rhythm, the world untold, Silver and ice, a story unfolds. No need for words, yet we understand, A connection felt, without command. The rush of speed, the grace you show, Together, a bond that continues to grow.

Verse 2: Your strength in silence, my heart’s desire, You steady the storm, I fuel the fire. Your blade, a cut so cold and true, And I’m the spark, igniting through. In the quiet of night, we find our way, A team, a partnership, come what may. Through every battle, we hold our ground, In each other’s presence, we are found.

Bridge: In the glance of an eye, in the sound of a breath, We find what words fail to express. The bond we share, unspoken, true, A thread that ties me close to you.

Chorus: We move in rhythm, the world untold, Silver and ice, a story unfolds. No need for words, yet we understand, A connection felt, without command. The rush of speed, the grace you show, Together, a bond that continues to grow.

Outro: Silver and ice, we stand as one, Two halves of a whole, with battles won. Side by side, we’ll always be, The rush of the storm, the calm of the sea.

RWBY Fan Song: Autograph

Hey all, it’s Kern here, coming at you with another RWBY related fan song. This one is called Autograph, and the reason I made it was because I was inspired by Volume 1 of the series where Ruby comes into contact with Glynda for the first time.

Ruby was mildly in awe that a huntress was beside her, up to and including asking for Glynda’s autograph. You would think a girl raised by huntsmen in her own right wouldn’t be so starry-eyed over just seeing a huntress fighting beside her, but Ruby was. I mean, Qrow’s no slouch, and though we don’t know much about Tai, we do know he at least graduated Beacon Academy and teaches at Signal.

I then concluded that one of the reasons Ruby is actually in awe isn’t because Glynda is a huntress, but rather because Glynda represents the “huntress ideal” insofar as Ruby’s seeing her actions at the time.

The moment of fighting together besides Glynda I think reflects a long-held if not impossible desire, as Summer Rose was also a huntress too. Her mother died when Ruby was too young to be doing any kind of real combat. Due to that, and her claims about how bad of a student she used to be until Qrow began personally training her bespeaks a certain lack of validation from the kind of hunters she’s inspired to be… and I’m not saying Ruby doesn’t adore her uncle, she most certainly does. Yet, there is that fact alone, he is her uncle. He’s not just a random professional in the trade acknowledging her.

Glynda is a professional though, and though she covers Ruby a fair bit in the battle, she doesn’t outright stop Ruby from adding bullets into the mix. It feels like Ruby experienced real combat without being by the side of a relative, teacher, or classmate. It probably is simply because it was a huntress that chose to offer that very basic level of acknowledgement that Ruby is overjoyed by the experience.

Perhaps in a way, purely because Glynda is a woman to begin with, there’s a higher bar there. She better reflects the sort of hunter Ruby aspires to be. She doesn’t fawn over Ozpin in quite the same way she fawns over Glynda, and I believe that’s partially because Ruby can look at Glynda and see her own “dreamlike” future in a small way.

Female, skirt wearing, unafraid to get into a fight. It was a villain Ruby was after, and Glynda’s aid in the matter reflects the sort of ethos Ruby has in the start of the series. She wanted to be a huntress to “help people”, and here Glynda is, doing that.

Anyway, in that scene after the airship escapes the scene, Ruby asks for Glynda’s autograph. This song is about the themes above and Ruby’s personal ambitions at the time. I truly hope you enjoy it because a lot of thought went into this song and it’s over all themes.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1] I chased ’em up high, through the smoke and the rain, Boots on the rooftops, heart off the chain. Then I saw her standin’, crop crackin’ loud, She whipped up a storm and she owned that cloud!
[Pre-Chorus] My cloak was flappin’, my hands were shakin’, I couldn’t believe the scene I was takin’…
[Chorus] Can I get your autograph? Right here on my hood, on my dreams, on my map! You’re the storm I wanna ride, you’re the fire in my spark, You’re the hero I’ve chased in my heart! So before you fly off, before you fade so fast — Please, oh please… can I get your autograph? [Verse 2] Sirens below and the clouds up high, You cracked that crop and lit up the sky. Blond hair flying, green eyes like a flame, I swear in that moment, I knew your name! [Pre-Chorus] My scythe felt heavy, but my soul felt light, Standin’ there dreamin’ in the neon night…
[Chorus] Can I get your autograph? On my dreams, on my sleeve, on my dusty old map! You’re the thunder I heard when I dared to believe, You’re the magic I wear on my sleeve! So before you ride off, before you vanish fast — Please, oh please… can I get your autograph?
[Bridge] One day, I’ll stand tall, wear that badge too, But right now, all I wanna do… Is hold this moment in my hand, A scythe, a dream, and a brand-new plan…
[Final Chorus] Can I get your autograph? On my hopes, on my heart, on this crazy path! You’re the reason I’m reaching, you’re the reason I fight, You’re the reason I’m chasing the light! So before you ride off, before you blaze past — Please, oh please… can I get your autograph?
Yeah, please, oh please… just one little autograph!

RWBY Fan Song: A Letter to Winter Schnee

Hey everyone, it’s Kern here, coming at you with a Weiss Schnee related fan song, and a letter she might have written to Winter early in volume 1. This is just head canon, but the song resonates well, I’d say. When I wrote this song, I wanted to paint Winter as the trusted role model that Weiss knows her to be, while equally banking on busted ego Weiss seems to have in the very early segments of RWBY Volume 1.

I wanted to do a Weiss fan song that’s more “fan fiction” than realty, although these themes are present in the show for sure. We set the stage with Weiss sending a letter to sister because we get no Winter Schnee in V1… so, yeah… this would take place in the ensuing days after the initiation, before she fully acclimates to Peter’s advice.

Hope you like the song!

Lyrics:
[Verse 1] Dearest Winter, I write from this madhouse they call a school, Where chaos reigns and no one minds the rules. You told me to be strong, to lead, to stand with pride… But by Dust, I swear this place is testing every ounce of me inside.

[Verse 2] Ruby, my own team leader — younger by two years, Still acts like a child with no sense of her peers. She doodles in class while we study the Grimm, And skips through the halls on a juvenile whim. Yang, her sister, slams through halls with fists and flair, She calls it ‘training’ when she throws me through the air. Horseplay, roughhousing, shouting without shame… And somehow I’m the one always taking the blame.

[Chorus] Oh Winter, what happened to order and grace? It’s just hall brawls and pillow wars taking place. I try to speak sense, try to bring a little class… But I may as well talk to broken glass. You told me I’d grow, you’d help me rise, But this is madness — not training — in disguise.

[Verse 3] And Blake, mysterious, quiet, and bold, She stares like I’ve done something wicked and cold. She speaks my name with bitter disdain, As if I forged the contracts, as if I caused the pain. I barely know her, but she acts so severe… Judging our family, as if I brought us here.

[Bridge] But Pyrrha… she’s different, a light, sincere, A champion’s heart, and the only one near Who listens, who cares, who gets this facade, The struggle to lead when they treat rules as fraud. With her, I’m not lost in this swirling parade, She sees the girl, not the name or the blade.

[Chorus] Oh Winter, I miss your quiet tone, The echo of your boots on marble stone. I miss your voice, your steadiness, your stare, Here, I’m adrift — and most don’t seem to care. They laugh, they shout, they dance in fire… While I sit here, drained, barely inspired.

[Outro] So, I write you this letter, while I’m away, And you’re serving Atlas in your own way. But if you can spare a moment to write, Please remind me that I’m not right. That the world still holds reason, logic and purpose dear, Because without that thought, I may not last here. Your sister, striving to stay composed… Weiss Schnee… …… An official student of Beacon Academy….

Subjecting Kresh to RWBY: RWBY Black Trailer Reaction

Hey all, it’s Kern here. For those who might have missed it over on YouTube, our reaction to the RWBY Black trailer is now up for your viewing pleasure and hilarity. Subjecting Kresh to RWBY is all about doing exactly that, introducing Kresh to the RWBY series. Kern is a long time fan of the show, and Kresh has never actually sat down to watch it. Between the two of us, it’s time to experience the series together.

Please support the official release, the show really is worth the watch if you’ve already got a subscription anyway. If you don’t have one, maybe try out the trailers over on RWBY YouTube first, and then go from there to decide if it’s worth continuing for you.

At the time of this post, RWBY is now on Hulu for those in the USA, and from what I understand the series is also on Apple TV for some places outside of the USA.

You can follow our personal reactions with the full playlist here.

As for this reaction video, it’s time to meet Blake Belladonna, and Adam Taurus… as a long time fan of the show, every single time I watch this trailer, I can’t help but feel nostalgic. There’s so much story telling embedded deeply into this trainer, moments that hindsight becomes 20/20 for later on in the series. All of the trailers are like that a little bit, but none of them quite reach Blake’s level in the RWBY Black Trailer.

The fights in this thing are solid, of course. A partner battle on a high speed train, waves of enemies, not to mention a huge mech… what’s not to like? Seriously, for the earliest days of RWBY, this trailer embeds a few key ideological opinions deep within the narrative, but it never feels too heavy. It really is just surface level for now, but that changes later when the series really kicks off.

It’s crazy to think this is the first trailer ever that we fans got to experience voice acting back when the trailer first released. The first two trailers were reliant on the songs and visual storytelling entirely to carry the weight of the plot. Then, the RWBY Black Trailer came thundering in, on a literal train no less, and smashed our expectations to bits… it was so long ago, and yet sometimes I can recall that feeling just like it was yesterday.

In any case, I hope you enjoyed our reaction to this trailer, and we’ll catch you in the next reaction video where we’ll be watching the RWBY Yellow Trailer… that video will go out next week on Tuesdays (assuming all goes according to plan, lol).

This has been Kernook, of The Demented Ferrets, where stupidity is at it’s finest and level grinds are par for the course. I’ll catch you next time. Meanwhile, not super long ago I did a fan song for this trailer, and that’s below. If you like RWBY fan songs, give it a listen…

Don’t forget to check out some other fun content below. We’ve got a lot of different projects going, and more to come down the pipeline later on. Sit tight and enjoy the ride.
